HAVING ISSUES KNOTTING YOUR LEATHER CORD?

Given the many brands and finishings for leather cords, choosing one can be tricky. Generally, the natural finishing leather cords are the most supple. For "glossy" and metallic finishings, it's down to quality.

TYPES OF FINISHING & THEIR RESULTS FOR KNOTTING

Natural finishing leather cords are pleasant to work with, regardless of where I purchased them. They knot easily and don't come loose.

"Glossy" leather cords tend to loosen when knotted. It depends on the stiffness of the "glossy" leather cord. If it's slightly stiffer than the ones with natural finishing, give it awhile to season, then tighten the knot(s) again.

Metallic finishing leather cords can be nice for knotting if they are supple, as the curves capture light perfectly. But, if the leather cord is stiff, the surface will tear, exposing the inside of the leather cord.

HOW TO PICK A SUPPLE LEATHER CORD?

Being able to touch, feel and see the leather cord in person before purchasing is ideal. What I like to do is to hold the leather cord, about 6-7 inches away from the end, and hold it almost vertically.

Supple leather cord should bend towards the ground in a nice curve.

A slightly stiffer leather cord will stick out like a wire.

A stiff leather cord will be gravity defying, feels hard and dry and springs back if you try to bend it.

"I hope these tips are helpful. With the time and effort that you spend doing your DIY bracelet, you wouldn't want to let gravity defying leather cord affect your masterpiece! Have fun choosing your leather cords."
