Shadowgun: DeadZone
Sniping Guide

Shadowgun DeadZone How to Snipe Effectively

HOW TO SNIPE EFFECTIVELY

Snipers are feared on the battlefield, with their ability to quickly take down heavy hitters with a bullet or two and change the tide of battle in their team's favour. The dread and fear of snipers often leads to a misplaced sense of scorn in many players.

Stealth

Moving around the battlefield like a ninja is extremely important for snipers. The element of surprise combined with a one shot kill will make your enemies overly cautious and ineffective on the battlefield, always fearing that deadly bullet that sends them back to stare at the respawn countdown.

Use any cover that you can whether it's a crate, a low wall or even a corner. Shadowgun: DeadZone is filled with dark corners for you to lurk in, ready to snipe the unwary enemy. Cover provides the dual purposes of stealth and protection from stray bullets.

Keep Moving

A sniper that stays at the same spot for too long is at huge risk. Camping at the same spot is ineffective after you've killed an enemy or two, now that they know you're there, they'll try to get you.

Always move around the map and don't stay at one spot for too long. If you're behind a long section of low wall, never fire from the same spot twice, move along the wall randomly. Staying still and popping up from the same spot twice in a row makes you an easy target for enemy snipers. Following a pattern also makes you an easy target for snipers. Don't move "5 steps to the left and 5 to the right".

Sniper VS Sniper

You can aim your sniper rifle without holding the fire button. Adjust the screen to the last place you saw the sniper pop up from, try to be as accurate as possible. Many silly snipers will pop up in the exact same spot, your crosshairs should be right over him, take him out.

Being patient is important in a sniper battle, if you hide for long enough behind cover the enemy sniper will sometimes get impatient and target your other teammates, that's your chance to take him out.

Teaming up to take out snipers using the Bait and Hammer tactic is the most effective. The bait will tap and release the fire button to quickly pop above cover and drop down again. If the enemy sniper takes the bait and breaks cover to take a shot, the Hammer gets a clear shot without fear of getting sniped. The bait has very little risk of getting sniped as he only breaks cover for a fraction of a second.

Another version of the Bait and Hammer tactic is the White Flag tactic, which might lure the enemy sniper into breaking cover.

Flank

The element of surprise is the biggest advantage a sniper has, and I guess a big gun helps too. Try to be at the least expected place. If your team is distracting the enemy from one front, ninja your way to the side of the enemy, chances are they won't even notice till you've killed two or three of them.

Sniper Set Up

1 item slot

  • Ammokit MK1 / MK2

An ammokit is a must as sniper rifles do not have many rounds. If you're sniping effectively, you'll quickly run out of bullets way before anyone takes you out.

2 item slots

  • Ammokit MK1 / MK2
  • Medikit MK1 / MK2

A medikit is extremely useful if you end up in a sniper fight.

3 item slots

  • Ammokit MK1 / MK2
  • Medikit MK1 / MK2
  • Grenade MK1 / MK2

A grenade MK1 or MK2 are good to have but way less important compared to an ammokit or medikit. If you're sniping properly, you should be far enough from the action that grenades are unusable. Grenades only come in handy when Run and Gunners get too close.

1 weapon slot

  • Sniper rifle: OSOG / Surgeon

An obvious need for snipers.

2 weapon slots

  • Sniper rifle: OSOG / Surgeon
  • Machinegun: Big Boy / Agony / Warmonger
The added Machinegun helps to kill or pin enemies that get too close for comfort while you move further back.

3 weapon slots
  • Sniper rifle: OSOG / Surgeon
  • Machinegun: Big Boy / Agony / Warmonger
  • Rocket launcher: Sh*tstorm / Sh*tstorm II
Rocket launchers provide your sniper with a little variety and a way of hitting groups of enemies bunched together.
